Short answer: after microneedling, redness and swelling usually disappear in a few days to a week, makeup can go on after 24 hours, and most people can go back to work straight away (American Academy of Dermatology). The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery describes two to seven days of downtime. In studies of RF microneedling, redness usually lasted hours to a few days. No source gives separate downtime for Potenza, Morpheus8 or Sylfirm. One session fits a short trip; a series is usually monthly.
What RF microneedling is
Microneedling makes many tiny punctures to trigger collagen. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat through the needles. Potenza, Morpheus8 and Sylfirm are RF microneedling devices commonly offered in Korea. They are used for acne scars, pores, texture and laxity. The American Academy of Dermatology says RF microneedling is safe for all skin tones, though the evidence in darker skin comes from a small number of people.
What the FDA clearances actually say
In the United States, these devices are cleared through the 510(k) route as electrosurgical devices. Their cleared use is electrocoagulation and haemostasis, or coagulation of soft tissue, not wrinkles or scars by name.

In October 2025 the FDA issued a safety communication about RF microneedling, reporting burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage, and stressing that it is a medical procedure, not a cosmetic treatment. Plain microneedling devices are a separate category, cleared for facial acne scars, facial wrinkles and abdominal scars in people aged 22 or older (FDA).
What the studies show
- Downtime: a 2025 systematic review of 16 studies (481 patients) found redness typically lasted hours to a few days, pain settled within 24 hours, and temporary darkening was reported in 7 studies and faded during follow-up (Niaz et al.).
- Skin of colour: a review of 35 articles in skin types III to VI found seven studies with temporary darkening, one with mild prolonged darkening and one with permanent scarring, and noted that much of the evidence is weak (Syder et al., 2023).
How long to stay in Korea
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) groups procedures for people who travel abroad. Treatments done under local anaesthetic in under 90 minutes are in its lowest group, with no extra time in the destination country needed for travel reasons. The NHS advice about waiting before flying is written for surgery, not for treatments like this one.
So what decides the length of your stay is the treatment itself: redness and the sun. One session fits a short trip. Microneedling is usually given as at least three monthly sessions (ASDS), so a full series means repeat trips. Book sightseeing before the treatment day and keep a day or two quiet after it.
